I've come to enjoy Tan Kim Hock products, esp. the delightful chendol. However, my recent trip to the shop itself last Sunday, after not having been there for more than 5 years, was a great letdown! The place was rather messy with shelves stacked so fully with packets of foodstuff that it's difficult to locate the price tag, ie. if there's one in the first place. There's no one around to check with, as the only shop assistants seemed to be at the payment counter. There's also no sampling like before, making it hard for customers to know if they'd like what they're purchasing. Not knowing the price, I took two pkts of biskut cap glob ayam or chicken biscuit in Chinese, which used to be my favourite. It's sold in a lot of 5 individual pkts, each weighing about only 25gm. The ingredients were mainly flour and spices. When I got out of the shop, I realised that I was charged 3 "special items" at RM9.90 each. I could account for one of them and upon making an enquiry, I was told that the other two were for the chicken biscuits. As I was in a hurry to leave, with the rest of the tour group waiting, I couldn't even think if I was being over-charged or if I shd return the biscuits. Returning home, I cld only hope that the taste wld justify the price, but sadly that was not the case! I'm utterly disappointed with Tan Kim Hock and certainly doubt that I'd drop in again!
